St. Baldrick's - I want to see YOU there!

Posted on March 20, 2014 at 10:05 PM Comments comments ()

If you've been in the salon anytime to see me in the last six months or so you've probably heard me talking about St. Baldrick's Foundation.

I am proud to be a part of such a wonderful project. Our event will held on Tuesday, April 1st at 6:30 at McHale's On Main. I want you and yours to join me & mine for a fun night of fundraising and head shaving!

Yep. I said "head shaving"!

Let me give you some back story...

A few years ago one of my amazing clients, Laura, told me about a good friend of hers who had shaved her head as a way to raise money for children's cancer research. I thought that was pretty neat. I've always wanted to shave my head - just out of curiosity. Yes, maybe that's weird but I've always wondered what my head shape looks like. Is it a good head shape? Wonky with dents? Who knows. But I kinda wanted to know. And I could raise money for a good cause?! Sounds like a plan. Eventually.

I had every intention of participating in a St. Baldrick's event. But only once I "got skinny". Who wants to be a chunky chick with a shaved head? Well, fast forward to late 2013. I'm talking with a friend/client, Jacki, whose young son, Harlan, has brain cancer. I mention St. Baldrick's and how much money an event could possibly raise for research funding. Jacki looks at me with her past-shoulder-length-uber-thick hair and says "I'll do it too. When are we doing this?" That was the final push to do what I've been wanting to do for the longest time!

So with Jacki as my partner in crime, err - charity, we start planning an event. The more we both looked into St. Baldrick's and what they do the more motivated we were to have amazing event. At one shaving event ONE person raised $500,000 for children's cancer research. Whoa. Shaving my head was once some weird thing on my bucket list but after seeing the money that could be raised with a buzz, oh yeah - I'm doing this! St. Baldrick's breaks down every single penny so that you can see exactly where the money is going. It's amazing.

I reached out to my favorite watering hole, McHale's, to see if they would let us host an event there. They were more than willing to help us. "Anything for the community" was their response. Sweet! So with McHale's help we have a location and a plan. Now we need stylists to buzz us, of course the gals at Rock Hill Salon.Com are in! Along comes the kindness of others... Jacki's Sister-In-Law, Ashley, joins us in agreeing to buzz her head and fundraise. Then, Scott, a good friend joins in too! As if that wasn't cool enough, my Sister, Nancy, signs up too! So we have FIVE amazing folks who are raising money for children's cancer research and shaving their heads! How awesome is that?! The icing on the cake? Duncan Photography has donated their time and skill to photograph our buzzing! The cool pic of me on the front page - that's s snapshot George took while I was doing my one of best pal's wedding hair. I adore George & Christine's skills and they'll be there to capture our FUNdrasing evening. Sweet!

And here we are - less than two weeks away from shave day. Our team goal is $5,000. We are currently at $1,104. What a great start! Please help us real our goal! Your donations help fund children's cancer research! YOU are helping fight cancer. And that's an awesome thing! Any amount, any at all is great appreciated.

I want to see YOU at our event. Seriously. Mark off the evening and spend it with us at McHales on Main. We will get started at 6:30 with some fun and the buzzing begins at 7:00.

Being Green Isn't Easy. Just Ask Kermit.

Spending time at the pool is a great way to beat the South Carolina heat but keep in mind that your hair and scalp can take a beating when exposed to sun and chorine.

Here a few simple ways to avoid ruining your lovely locks while hanging out by the pool:

First, and most important, wet your hair with tap water. Saturating your hair with tap water decreases the amount of chorine that can be absorbed into your locks.

Towel dry. You’re shooting for a damp dry consistency. Take a dollop of conditioner, any kind, even the cheap stuff and run it through your ends like lotion. This forms a makeshift barrier between your hair, the sun and chorine.

Now, swim. Have fun.

Once the fun is over comes part two: Rinse the pool water out of your hair as soon as possible. Shampoo & condition if you can. This rids any chemicals from your hair.

See, that wasn’t that hard!

If you can manage to do this quick and simple routine you will save your color and protect agaist chorine build up and the risk of Kermit hair.

Lets Recap:

Now, about your scalp… Don’t forget the sunscreen! Your scalp can burn too!  Worried about sunscreen in your hair? Don’t. It will wash out.

Paul Mitchell makes a sunscreen for hair and scalp. An affordable double duty product!

Not a scalp sunscreen fan? Sport a hat. Look at some of these adorable choices!

And now, the most important step for this summer:
Don't forget to invite your favorite stylist over for a swim! :)

So, this is a real thing. An amazing, real thing.

Introducing The Miracurl, an automatic curling machine.

Yep. It curls your hair for you.

Yes, really!

I heard some buzz about it a few weeks ago and highly doubted it.
No way, that doesn't sound like a real thing.
But I was wrong!
I got to witness it in action at our supply house last week.

Believe the hype!
It's fool proof curls!

Watch the video! It is amazing!

Posted on February 27, 2013 at 12:55 AM Comments comments ()

Howdy!

I've taken the jump into the world of online booking.

This means you can book an appointment anytime you want, day or night without having to play a game of phone tag!

Of course, if you prefer calling or texting to set up your appointments, that is still fine.

Simply click the link on the home page and you can choose for any of my services and see the available times.  Super simple stuff!

Appointments & Social Networking

Posted on November 10, 2012 at 12:40 AM Comments comments ()

Salon.Com Clients, I have a huge favor to ask.

For scheduling appointments, please call or text instead of facebook.

I am swamped right now at the salon (this is a good thing, btw) and between calls, text, emails, facebook messages, wall post and all the other means of communication, I am overwhelmed.

If we can narrow appointment making to calls and texts the odds of someone slipping through the cracks is greatly reduced.

Thank you for your understanding and thank you all for your continued support! With all the moves I have made from one salon to another I am so thankful to have you all! Your referrals and recommendations have helped me grow and prosper.

Thank you all!

New Stuff @ Salon.Com, Glazing, Seasonal Appts and Receptionsit Opening! - Whew, that's alot!

Posted on October 25, 2011 at 10:05 AM Comments comments ()

Me.  Oh.  My.

I have gotten pretty slack about updating my blog.

Forgive me.

Things are well at Salon.Com. We have lots of new stuff going on, so let me fill you in!

We have welcomed back Margarita who is doing well, feeling good and looking great! Margarita is a stylist, manicurist and eyelash expert. I will post pictures of her eyelash extensions. They are amazing, affordable and really make those peepers pop!

So what’s new with me?!

Clearly I have been busy with salon work. Thank you for your constant referrals and support! You guys keep a gal hustling! :D

Feather hair extensions are still quite the rage. I am offering pink feather and pink hair extensions to help promote Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Get your Pink on!

Since this is October and awareness is the goal, let me pass these websites on….

www.bebrightpink.org

www.checkyourboobies.org

These sites have self examination videos and tips. Awareness is great, and so is early detection.

As you’ve noticed, the temperatures have dropped, embracing us in a nice little chill!

Make sure your hair isn’t still stuck in summer!

Now is the time to glaze those washed out summer ends!

Sometimes a little color goes a long way!

For the month of November I will be offering the Illuminate Demi Glaze for $10 off.

This special is only for the month of November!

Not sure if this service is for you?

Just give me a call and we can discuss what is best for you to make you shine for Turkey time!

*Below you will see where I am looking for a receptionist to reduce my amount of time spent on the phone.  Please do not ever hesitate to call me, I am just trying to find a system that offers the best service I can.  Calls are never ever a bother!

Please don’t wait until the last minute to schedule your appointment!

You know my policy – I would rather you schedule an appointment and have to cancel on me then for you not to be able to get in!

The holidays are extremely busy, so don’t let time slip away from you and your hair!

*btw, if someone wants to do this Christmas tree 'do, I'm totally game!

Other News-

I am looking for a receptionist.

I would like to find someone to schedule my clients so that I can focus completely on hair.

I am looking for someone with superior customer service skills, who can answer and return phone calls and texts and schedule clients for salon services. A smartphone will be provided.

This job would not require you to be present at the salon. You would not need to devote your entire day to this, just a few moments here and there to schedule appointments and answer questions pertaining to pricing and other basic client questions. Superior customer service is an absolute must. I cannot stress this enough!

Compensation for this position is unlimited hair services, a provided smartphone and a few other perks. There is not any monetary compensation at this time. As business and responsibilities grow, so may the benefits, which can be discussed at a later date.

If you or someone you know is interested, please send a resume with references to susanamandareeves@gmail.com. I will be accepting resumes until Monday, October 31st.

Please do not send me message asking me to call you. Seriously, the whole point of trying to find a receptionist is for me to reduce my phone time and increase my salon time. If you have any questions about this position, please include them with your resume and I will get back with you after the 31st.

Thank you in advance!

Yeah, I said it…. Turkey time! Before you know it, the holidays will be here!

Feathers & Tinsel

Posted on August 18, 2011 at 1:45 AM Comments comments ()

Hair Feathers are ordered!

I waffled back and forth whether to offer the feathers... I finally found synthetic feathers which are cruelty free, so it’s on! Hair feathers are attached with a small silicon bead to the hair. They can be washed, dried and styled just like hair. They generally last 4-6 weeks, can be re-used and removed with ease!

I also have tinsel for hair on the way. It is neat way to add a flash or sparkle. It can be attached the same way as a feather or tied to the hair. They generally last 3-5 weeks and can be easily removed.

Product Clearance!

That means everything is on sale!

Bed Head Self Absorbed Combo - $15

ISO Daily Cleanse Combo - $10

ISO HydraCondition Combo - $10

Goldwell Radiant Star Shine Spray - $8

These won't last long!

:)

Finally Updating!

Posted on June 4, 2011 at 10:31 PM Comments comments ()

So, as you can tell, I’ve been kinda busy.

I haven’t even made time to update my blog since the move to Salon.Com!

Sorry about that!

Thanks for all your referrals! Y’all are keeping me busy and that is a wonderful thing!

Of course I’m always working on something new at the salon! Here’s a few of the newest Happenings at Salon.Com!

I am now carrying the full line of Adams Eden Body Products. They are wonderful! My favorite scent is Lavender! You can find out more about Adam’s Eden products and read about my friend Adam on his website - http://www.adamseden.webs.com. And be sure to Like them on Facebook!

Hair Feathers! I love them! Unfortunately, they are on back order. I will have them in as soon as I can! For those of you that haven’t heard about Hair Flocking, it is a feather attached to the hair with a small metal bead. It can be flat ironed, curled and blow-dried just like your hair! And best of all, it can be removed without any damage to the hair! They come in natural or funky colors! It’s a great way to mix things up!

I made some changes to my Hours & Appointment section. No major changes, but I have added a $10 Convenience Charge for late night appointments and non-bookable time. You may want to give it a gander if you have time to spare!

My current favorite product is still Rusk DeepShine Oil Treatment. If you’ve been in the salon within the past 6 months, I’ve used it on you! It is a wonderful frizz & heat protector, detangler and shine treatment that you add to the hair before or after (or both!) drying. A little goes a long way! If you haven’t tried it yet let me know! You’ll love it as much as I do!

Ok Kiddos, that’s all for now! Have a great hair day! 
