If you've been in the salon anytime to see me in the last six months or so you've probably heard me talking about St. Baldrick's Foundation.
I am proud to be a part of such a wonderful project. Our event will held on Tuesday, April 1st at 6:30 at McHale's On Main. I want you and yours to join me & mine for a fun night of fundraising and head shaving!
Yep. I said "head shaving"!
Let me give you some back story...
A few years ago one of my amazing clients, Laura, told me about a good friend of hers who had shaved her head as a way to raise money for children's cancer research. I thought that was pretty neat. I've always wanted to shave my head - just out of curiosity. Yes, maybe that's weird but I've always wondered what my head shape looks like. Is it a good head shape? Wonky with dents? Who knows. But I kinda wanted to know. And I could raise money for a good cause?! Sounds like a plan. Eventually.
I had every intention of participating in a St. Baldrick's event. But only once I "got skinny". Who wants to be a chunky chick with a shaved head? Well, fast forward to late 2013. I'm talking with a friend/client, Jacki, whose young son, Harlan, has brain cancer. I mention St. Baldrick's and how much money an event could possibly raise for research funding. Jacki looks at me with her past-shoulder-length-uber-thick hair and says "I'll do it too. When are we doing this?" That was the final push to do what I've been wanting to do for the longest time!
So with Jacki as my partner in crime, err - charity, we start planning an event. The more we both looked into St. Baldrick's and what they do the more motivated we were to have amazing event. At one shaving event ONE person raised $500,000 for children's cancer research. Whoa. Shaving my head was once some weird thing on my bucket list but after seeing the money that could be raised with a buzz, oh yeah - I'm doing this! St. Baldrick's breaks down every single penny so that you can see exactly where the money is going. It's amazing.
I reached out to my favorite watering hole, McHale's, to see if they would let us host an event there. They were more than willing to help us. "Anything for the community" was their response. Sweet! So with McHale's help we have a location and a plan. Now we need stylists to buzz us, of course the gals at Rock Hill Salon.Com are in! Along comes the kindness of others... Jacki's Sister-In-Law, Ashley, joins us in agreeing to buzz her head and fundraise. Then, Scott, a good friend joins in too! As if that wasn't cool enough, my Sister, Nancy, signs up too! So we have FIVE amazing folks who are raising money for children's cancer research and shaving their heads! How awesome is that?! The icing on the cake? Duncan Photography has donated their time and skill to photograph our buzzing! The cool pic of me on the front page - that's s snapshot George took while I was doing my one of best pal's wedding hair. I adore George & Christine's skills and they'll be there to capture our FUNdrasing evening. Sweet!
And here we are - less than two weeks away from shave day. Our team goal is $5,000. We are currently at $1,104. What a great start! Please help us real our goal! Your donations help fund children's cancer research! YOU are helping fight cancer. And that's an awesome thing! Any amount, any at all is great appreciated.
I want to see YOU at our event. Seriously. Mark off the evening and spend it with us at McHales on Main. We will get started at 6:30 with some fun and the buzzing begins at 7:00.
